I used to believe that meditation always had to be pleasant. If it isn’t, then I’m doing something wrong.
One of my former teachers, Bruce Frantzis, put it this way. If you want to feel good, take drugs.
Feeling better after meditating can be a pleasant side effect, but it is not the main goal of meditation.
What is meditation anyway? There are many opinions about this. One of my current teachers has an interesting view – take a look: https://youtu.be/04dNi-orU90?si=WTXhxpn_-nw92C93
So this Sunday, dear Ritvars took me very deeply – to a place that felt uncomfortable. One explanation for this (the mind always needs explanations!) is that an unpleasant feeling arises during meditation when light hits a blockage.
The good thing about it is that it breaks down blockages.
Anyway, I cleared blockages for 30 minutes 😉
I still remember one of my mediations where I was in the room with six awakened people. I assumed that this would be the most pleasant meditation of my life.
During the class my body ached constantly and I had so many thoughts, it was just unbelievable.
Thank you dear Ritvars for leading this wonderful mediation. It was a joy as always – which is a bit of a paradox.
If you would like to explore this, then simply take part in our mediation.
I wish everyone a happy new year.
